You Are Not a Goat

Be you a Christian, Jewish, atheist or otherwise, you are not a goat. It is rather unlikely that you might one day change into a goat. Or a sheep, for that matter. No, you are a human being—a “son of man” in Christ’s day—and valuable to God. That’s what St. Matthew believed, the Jewish author of The Parable of the Sheep and the Goats. So let the fire and brimstone image go because your Father loves you. Those plagued by self inflicted goat trauma can breathe easier with a few short words from the shepherd to his flock:

“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good
—except God alone.

Luke 18:19

Untitled

I would die just to know you
not for the things you do
not for the many gifts you send
neither the food on my plate
nor the splendor you create,
all of these things you do for me
to taste, to touch, to feel and see
I would give up and gladly
die just to know you.

Reclaiming My Father in Heaven

I confess to stumbling a bit off the path of late. Mostly this was due to worldly concerns, which include but aren’t limited to sparring with buggy software, nonstop work day and night, and something of a financial surprise when it came time to buy a new Apple computer for my assistant, Elena. In order to remedy my issues, though my straights were not dire, I set about reclaiming my Father in heaven.

Come the Human Boy

Come the Human Boy

Two thousand years and twelve
hitherto today, Love, attained
in this wintry foreign land
the hearts of we, its dwellers.

Incarnate, creation’s Master
now come human boy, illumined
in joy the nature of All.

Laws of life, of Love disclosed
in the image of oneself, oddly
creation’s Master
now come human boy,
seemed rather more to be
much like thou and me.

Misgiving hearts, come!
See oneself made young
indescribable forever-joy, be
thy gift of the human boy:
now come children,
we shall perish the winter.

Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Making the Little Child

I’ve been making the little child for a while now. I don’t work real hard at it, because little children don’t work. Adults work. Us kids play, ask tons of questions, and believe in impossible stuff. Funny. Grownups do exactly the opposite! But it’s sad, too, because grownups who can’t make the little child won’t know how to enter the kingdom of God.

Nope. My Brother says that only a little child can see the kingdom.

Orb Photos – Shrine of St. Thérèse

The orb photos from Shrine of St. Thérèse were as unpretentious as the shrine itself. Such is the nature of spirit: its greatest gifts are not always obvious. The small beach-stone chapel hid within a thick rain forest enclave on a little island, nearly invisible to the casual passerby. But few people passed by here, on the outskirts of Juneau. We were probably the only non-Juneaites within 30 miles on this, the final day of the Alaskan tourist season. Despite the deeply mystical air of this lovely garden paradise, thoughts of orbs were not on my mind.
